The principal engineer will provide day-to-day technical guidance to the engineering team, working with the product owner to clearly understand project objectives and assist the development team in delivering great products. This position is 40% hands-on coding and architecture and 60% empowering, mentoring and supporting other members of the team. The principal engineer will be involved early in the project planning process to gain a full understanding of what needs building and work alongside engineers in guiding technical decisions to exceed stakeholder expectations.

• Provide daily technical guidance to development teams to identify blocked tasks and advance projects
• Provide architectural guidance in alignment with technical vision developed in coordination with CTO
• Work closely with business stakeholder to define project scopes and expectations
• Identify additional tools and resources needed for the product development team to ensure quality and productivity
• Implement robust and flexible solutions to complex technical challenges
• Maintain current knowledge of software development best practices and trends

• Excellent people skills with an ability to foster professional development
• Demonstrated ability to communicate with business stakeholders and work through ambiguity
• 6+ years of cloud software development experience with hands-on work in both frontend and backend development
• 2+ years of experience in a software architect or principal role
• Experience with agile software project management (kanban, scrum or other)

• 2+ years of experience with Django in a production environment
• Dairy industry experience
• High-growth startup experience
• Experience in B2B software product development
• Experience contributing to open-source software

Location: Remote Option. Expect to travel to our Fond Du Lac, WI office four to six times per year, when the pandemic subsides. Must be comfortable communicating with the team using video.
